HC Deb 11 March 1918 vol 104 cc28-9
23. Sir F. HALL

asked the Minister of Reconstruction whether he will consider as to the appointment of a Committee with the object of advising as to the adoption of more businesslike and efficient methods in respect of staff and the utilisation of office accommodation by the co-ordination of work, such Committee to submit an interim report as to the immediate changes which they suggest should be made, both as regards temporary and permanent Departments?

The MINISTER of RECONSTRUCTION (Dr. Addison)

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to a similar question on the 27th February, to which I have nothing to add. I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the reply referred to.

Sir F. HALL

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the answer was given in reply to a question which I put down myself, and has the right hon. Gentleman satisfied himself that there is no over- lapping, and that all Civil servants are being utilised to the greatest possible extent?

Dr. ADDISON

The Committee to which the hon. and gallant Gentleman refers was appointed to deal with the matter.

Sir F. HALL

Is it being investigated under the chairmanship of Sir John Bradbury?

Dr. ADDISON

Certainly.

Sir F. HALL

Will the Report be sent up quickly or left in abeyance?

Dr. ADDISON

I will consult my right hon. Friend.
