HC Deb 11 March 1918 vol 104 cc24-5
16. Sir J. FLEMING

asked how much money the Development Commissioners have spent for the encouragement of forestry up to the date of the latest statistics, stating the amount separately for England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales?

Mr. BALDWIN(Joint Financial Secretary to the Treasury)

The amount recommended up to the present date by the Development Commissioners to be spent for the encouragement of forestry are as follows:—

England and Wales £ 109,796
Scotland 31,542
Ireland 140,570
The total expenditure in respect of these recommendations cannot be stated at present, as in some cases it relates to periods not yet completed. Recommendations in respect of England and Wales cannot be differentiated as Grants made to the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries for forestry purposes in many cases relate to both countries.

Sir J. FLEMING

Will the hon. Gentleman promise that when the new allocation is being made he will remember and redress the anomaly at present existing with regard to the treatment of Ireland and Scotland under which Ireland is getting five times as much as Scotland?
