HC Deb 04 March 1918 vol 103 c1690
17. Mr. BILLING

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to whom all official documents in the possession of Sir Cecil Spring Rice at the time of his death were handed; and whether it is proposed to appoint a new British Ambassador in his place?

Mr. BALFOUR

All official documents remain in the archives of His Majesty's Embassy. Lord Reading is at present His Majesty's Ambassador on special mission to the United States of America.

Mr. BILLING

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware whether Sir Cecil Spring Rice was bringing any papers back to England with him, and, if so, whether they are in America or in this country?

Mr. BALFOUR

Of course, they are in America.
