HC Deb 04 March 1918 vol 103 c1701
72. Major DAVID DAVIES

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he has been in communication with the Foreign Office as to the state of public opinion in the United States regarding the use of grain and foodstuffs in this country for the manufacture of alcohol; and whether he is in a position to state the result of his inquiries?

Mr. PARKER

The Food Controller is fully informed as to the state of public opinion on this matter in the United States, and is in direct and constant communication with the United States Food Administrator. It may relieve the hon. and gallant Member from any present anxiety if I point out that until further order no fresh grain will be converted into malt for the brewing of beer.
