HC Deb 04 March 1918 vol 103 cc1718-9
59. Mr. LLEWELYN WILLIAMS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will direct a Return to be made, as asked for by the hon. Member for Carmarthen, as to the members of the present Administration who are financially interested in newspapers and the names of such newspapers?

Mr. BONAR LAW

After careful consideration, I am not prepared to grant the Return asked for. To ask the members of the Government to give a return of their private investments, apart from any question of management in any particular business, would be to establish an entirely new precedent which I do not think would be desirable.

Mr. BILLING

Will the right hon. Gentleman supply a list of subsidies which the Government has paid to the Press to preach their pernicious gospel?
