HC Deb 04 March 1918 vol 103 c1708
63. Colonel THORNE

asked the Minister of Munitions if he is aware that about fifty members of the National Union of General Workers employed at a dye works making high explosives are not paid the full trade union rates; if he is aware that when the trade union official made an application for the 6s. 6d. that was being paid less than the proper rates the firm in question gave the men and women fourteen days' notice; and if he will take action in the matter?

The only complaint received by the Department respecting the firm in question related to the nonpayment of bonuses under certain awards. Inquiry was made into those complaints, when it was found that the awards did not, in fact, apply; that the firm was no longer engaged on Government work, and that it was about to close down.
