HC Deb 26 June 1918 vol 107 c1043
39. Mr. GILBERT

asked the First Commissioner of Works how many allotments have been let in Greenwich Park; what is the average size of the same and what is the charge per rod; if all the allotments are unprotected, though there are heaps of iron hurdles in the park that could be used; why the allotment holders are not allowed a supply of water from the mains with which the park is supplied; and if he will give instructions that a hydrant can be used for the allotments?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Sir Alfred Mond)

One hundred and thirty-nine allotments of 10 rods each have been let to the Greenwich Borough Council, at a charge of 6d. per rod, the council charging the holders 9d. per rod. The allotments, like most others, are unprotected. The iron hurdles in Greenwich Park are not available, as they are all required for specific purposes. The water supply in close proximity to the allotments is limited, though it could be increased if the council would undertake to bear the extra cost. No application has, however, been received for a water supply.
