HC Deb 25 June 1918 vol 107 cc881-2
31. Sir R. COOPER

asked the Undersecretary of State for the Home Department if he will change the form of the Annual Return of the names and other particulars of persons naturalised so as to show, in addition to the particulars hitherto given, the age and sex of the person; the nationality at birth, and all subsequent changes in nationality in their proper sequence; length of residence in this country; whether the person is a Jew or of Jewish ancestry; whether the person has laid down his former nationality or nationalities, and whether with or without the consent of their respective Governments; and a brief statement of the reasons for desiring to become naturalised in this country.

Mr. BRACE

I do not think it would be practicable or desirable to include in the Return all the particulars suggested by the hon. Baronet, but I will bring his suggestions before my right hon. Friend on his return.

Mr. WATT

Can the right hon. Gentleman say who it is at the Home Office who is protecting these naturalised aliens?

Mr. BRACE

No one at the Home Office.

Mr. PENNEFATHER

May I ask whether, at all events, the old practice of giving the full name and address of these persons could not be reverted to, instead of the new practice of merely giving the name of the town?

Mr. BRACE

I will consult with my right hon. Friend on his return, with a view to seeing whether my hon. Friend's desire can be met.
