HC Deb 17 June 1918 vol 107 cc31-2
48. Colonel THORNE

asked the Prime Minister if he is aware that Thursday, 4th July, is American Independence Day; and if he intends recommending the House to close down on the day in question, with a view to celebrating the American Independence Day?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second part, I hardly think that the suspension of the work of the House would be a desirable way to celebrate Independence Day.

Colonel THORNE

Will the right hon. Gentleman agree to the House meeting on the previous Friday, so that we can have the holiday on Thursday, 4th July?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I am afraid that we may very likely need both days.
