HC Deb 06 June 1918 vol 106 cc1741-2
49. Mr. OUTHWAITE

asked the Prime Minister whether the Labour Party has withdrawn its representative from the War Aims Committee?

Mr. BALDWIN (Joint Financial Secretary to the Treasury)

The answer is in the negative.

Mr. OUTHWAITE

Has not Mr. Peters, who was the only direct representative of the Labour party on the War Aims. Committee, been withdrawn by resolution of the executive of the party as a condemnation of the propaganda which is being conducted by the committee?

Mr. BALDWIN

No. I believe that Mr. Peters resigned some six months ago.

Mr. OUTHWAITE

Did he not resign as a result of a vote of the executive, and therefore has not the only direct representative of the Labour party been withdrawn?

Mr. BALDWIN

I am afraid that I do not know the grounds on which he resigned, but I would remind the hon. Member that the hon. Member for Bolton, and the hon. Member for Halifax are members of the Committee.

Mr. OUTHWAITE

Are not these two Members there as members of the Government and not directly appointed by the Labour party?

Mr. BALDWIN

No.
