HC Deb 06 June 1918 vol 106 cc1744-5
2. Mr. JOWETT

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if the salary of M. Nabokhoff, chargé d' affaires under the Czarist Government, is still being paid by the British Government?

Lord R. CECIL

His Majesty's Government allow a certain sum for the maintenance of the Russian Embassy staff, including M. Nabokhoff, on a scale much reduced from that previously provided by the Russian Government.

Mr. KING

Is this Grant subject to any time limit, or is it indefinite?

Lord R. CECIL

I do not know what the hon. Member means. There is no time limit that I know of.

Mr. KING

Is M. Nabokhoff given to understand that these payments will cease at some definite date or in the near future?

Mr. CHANCELLOR

Is M. Nabokhoff's Government still recognised?

Lord R. CECIL

No.

Mr. OUTHWAITE

Is this officer retained here in the hope of a restoration of the Tsar?

Lord R. CECIL

Certainly not.
