HC Deb 04 June 1918 vol 106 c1405
45. Mr. HOLT

asked the Prime Minister if the Government still proposes to introduce and pass into law a measure of Irish self-government as the price for enabling this country to emerge triumphantly out of this War; and, if so, whether he will state what arrangements the Government are making to pay this price before it is too late?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I can add nothing to the previous replies on this subject.

Mr. PRINGLE

Is it still the view of the Government that this is the price of the successful conclusion of the War?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I do not know what the hon. Member means.

Mr. PRINGLE

It is a quotation from the Prime Minister.

Mr. HOLT

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether he still agrees with the Prime Minister that Irish Home Rule is an essential measure in order that we may emerge successfully from the War?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I do not recall the particular speech referred to, but of course I am in agreement with the policy that was explained by the Prime Minister.

Mr. KING

Are the Government open to change their policy frequently?
