HC Deb 29 July 1918 vol 109 cc5-6
6. General McCALMONT

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state the cause of the delay in paying the officers of steamers under the control of the Railway Executive Committee the increases which have been agreed upon by the Committee as from 6th October last; and whether he will take steps to have these payments made without further delay?

Sir A. STANLEY

The matter was one of some difficulty, but instructions have now been issued for a commencing rate of pay and increments to be given to the officers in question equal on the average and on the whole to those laid down by the National Maritime Board for merchant ships. The advances will date back to 6th October.

General McCALMONT

When will they begin to be paid? The point is that these officers are not getting any increase at present. When will the increase be paid?

Sir A. STANLEY

I understand the matter has only been disposed of in the last two or three days. I do not anticipate any difficulty on that point.
