§ Colonel BOLESasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that a woman who lost her son, a seaman in the Royal Naval Reserve, on the "Llandovery Castle," was required by the Board of Trade at Bristol to produce two copies of her marriage certificate and two copies of the son's birth certificate, such copies costing 3s. 7d. each; and whether there is any reason that poor people should be put to this expense?
Sir A. STANLEYIt is not the practice of the Board of Trade to require two copies of any certificate of relationship to be produced in support of a claim to the wages, etc., of deceased seamen. The Board's superintendent at Bristol cannot identify the case in question, but further inquiry will be made if the hon. Member will furnish me with particulars and the name of the deceased seaman.
