HC Deb 29 July 1918 vol 109 cc38-9
58. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Prime Minister whether he will receive a deputation of masters and men from the Potteries to represent to him the results of the ruin with which the industry is threatened by reason of the action of the Coal Controller?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The Coal Controller has recently received a deputation from the Potteries in regard to their supplies, and no useful purpose would therefore be served by the reception by the Prime Minister of another deputation.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Is he aware that they got no satisfaction out of the Coal Controller, and that there is a prospect of this population of 300,000 being thrown entirely out of work during the winter months?

Mr. BONAR LAW

No; I was not aware of that. I am sure my right hon. Friend gave us all the satisfaction in his power.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

I beg to give notice that I shall raise this question on Wednesday, when pressure will be brought to bear.
