HC Deb 18 July 1918 vol 108 c1232
62. Captain BARNETT

asked the Secretary to the Board of Trade whether, with a view to economy of time and paper, he has considered the desirability of simplifying and standardising the forms of tender and invoice used by the various Government Departments; and, if so, whether he is now in a position to state what steps it is proposed to take in order to secure this object?

Sir A. STANLEY

I should welcome any action which the spending Departments may find it possible to take in the direction suggested, and I will communicate with those Departments on the subject.

Captain BARNETT

Is my right hon. Friend aware that some important Government Departments print a large part of the Law of England in their tender forms, while other Departments are satisfied with a businesslike form which contains no law at all?

Sir A. STANLEY

I am afraid that I have no knowledge on the subject.
