HC Deb 18 July 1918 vol 108 cc1225-6
22. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Home Secretary if he will have inquiry made into the case of Ernest James, a prisoner in Northallerton Gaol, who, on the 31st May last, was very seriously scalded about the legs as a result of an accident in the boiler-house in the kitchen and who, after being in bed for three weeks, can now only move about on crutches and who is badly run down in health; and will he use his powers for the temporary release of prisoners in order to give this man an opportunity of getting well?

Sir G. CAVE

On the 31st May this prisoner's foot was unfortunately scalded by the escape of condensed steam in the cook-house. The scald is now healed and the prisoner is not going about on crutches. He is under the continuous care of the medical officer, who is of opinion that he will get quite well. The prisoner has made no complaint.
