HC Deb 18 July 1918 vol 108 c1223
87. Mr. WATT

asked the Minister of National Service who constitute the advisory committee of the City of London; whether the exemptions for military service granted by this body are reviewed by any body or by any tribunal; whether he will consider the advisability of having them so reviewed; and is he aware that younger men are being sheltered on all sorts of pleas while older men are receiving calling-up notices?

Sir A. GEDDES

The Advisory Committee consists of members eminent and experienced in the various classes of business carried on in the City of London. The Committee does not grant exemptions, but advises the National Service representative on cases which are considered and decided by the City of London Tribunal, subject to review by the Appeal Tribunal in the ordinary way. I am not aware that the tribunal has been unduly lenient with younger men.
