HC Deb 12 July 1918 vol 108 c608
3. Mr. NEEDHAM

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the present incomplete state of the new electoral register, he will arrange for it to be brought into force on 1st December, and advance the dates of claims, objections, etc., to a corresponding extent, so as to allow more time for its proper completion?

Mr. FISHER

I could not undertake to postpone the coming into force of the new register, as suggested by the hon. Member. I may say, however, that I have just issued an order postponing for eight days certain registration dates, including the dates for making claims and objections.

4. Mr. NEEDHAM

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that Form A for the registration of voters has been found in practice to be complex; and whether he will take steps to revise it before the next new register is undertaken?

Mr. FISHER

I am aware that difficulties have been experienced in filling up the form referred to. After a careful consideration of the form, I doubt whether it would be possible to make it much simpler, but I will certainly consider the matter again before the work of compiling the next register is begun.
