HC Deb 29 January 1918 vol 101 c1433
49. Mr. D. MASON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can inform the House of the annual cost of Lord Northcliffe's mission to the United States of America both there and in this country, and of the total amount expended?

Mr. SONAR LAW

The general expenses of the Mission in the United States of America for the initial three months to the beginning of September were about £11,000. It is not yet possible to form a reliable estimate of the future cost in the United States of America, but salaries and office accommodation are at the rate of £12,500 per annum. The expenditure in this country is estimated at £5,000 per annum.
