HC Deb 17 January 1918 vol 101 c476
74. Sir J. SPEAR

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food if he has received an application from a farmer in Romford, Essex, to expedite the permit issued for a steam wagon; whether he is aware that, by the permit now granted, such wagon cannot be delivered for thirty-two weeks, and, consequently, much delay will he caused in sending the farmer's market garden produce to London; and will he arrange with the Ministry of Munitions for a permit affording a more speedy delivery?

Mr. CLYNES

If the hon. Member will inform me of the name of the farmer to whom he refers, I will cause inquiries to be made. I may, however, state that a priority certificate for steam wagons, other than the ordinary permit which involves a certain delay, can only be procured in the most urgent cases owing to pressing requirements for war purposes.
