HC Deb 17 January 1918 vol 101 c504
19. Mr. COOTE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he is aware that a notice to quit and ejectment has been served upon a Mr. George L. Joynt, of Killala, county Mayo, by the Congested Districts Board for the compulsory possession of a small farm he holds under the latter body adjoining his house and residence; is he aware that the farm on which Mr. Joynt lives is a small one with a rental of only £9, and that the farm the Board desire to take from him is only valued at £44 19s.; and, in view of the fact that both his sons. are serving in the Army together with five nephews, two of whom have been recently killed, will he see that in the absence of these men, their home is not confiscated,. especially as Mr. Joynt offers to the Board another farm six miles distant from his home?

Mr. DUKE

I am informed that the Congested Districts Board have issued notice to quit and ejectment for the farm referred to, but the case has been adjourned on the joint application of the Board and the tenant pending negotiations for the surrender of part of the lands in his possession. It is hoped that satisfactory terms of settlement may be reached.
