§ 3. Colonel YATEasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will state what number of the 270 officers on the reserved list who have received promotion under the recommendations of the Churchill Committee belong to each branch of the Service; and what proportion these numbers bear respectively to the number of reserve officers in each branch of the Service who are eligible for promotion?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONThe promotions in, and appointments to, the Reserve of Officers under the Army Council Instructions of 12th August, 1917, which have already been carried out, are:—
Cavalry | … | 23 |
Royal Artillery | … | 15 |
Royal Engineers | … | 9 |
Foot Guards | … | 10 |
Infantry | … | 207 |
Army Service Corps | … | 5 |
Army Veterinary Corps | … | 1 |
270 |
§ Five recommendations are at present awaiting verification. To give the proportion asked for in the last part of the question would involve the labour of calculating the service of every officer in the Reserve of Officers, whether in reach of promotion or not, and I regret this cannot be undertaken at the present time. The Military Secretary would be pleased to explain the position personally to my hon. and gallant Friend if he would call and see him at the War Office.
§ Colonel YATEAre any promotions to be given to the Royal Army Medical Corps?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONI think so; on the report of the Committee presided over by my right hon. Friend (Mr. Churchill).
§ Colonel YATEThe Royal Army Medical Corps are not mentioned in the list, and I hope they have not been overlooked.
