HC Deb 20 February 1918 vol 103 cc735-6
32. General CROFT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether any Tungsten ore has been exported from the United Kingdom during the War; whether any such ore has gone to Germany; if so, whether the Government will state the name of the firm or firms who were responsible for such exports; and what action was taken by His Majesty's Government?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of MUNITIONS (Mr. Kellaway)

I have been asked to answer this question. The control of Tungsten ore was established by Order in September, 1915. Since that date the Ministry of Munitions have sanctioned the exportation of a certain amount of this material to our French Allies, and a further small quantity has been exported to the United States. No sanction has been given for any exportation to Germany.

General CROFT

My question asks whether there was any exportation?

Mr. KELLAWAY

The answer is, since the control was taken over by the State.

General CROFT

My question is, during the period of the War—can the hon. Gentleman give any information as to that period?

Mr. KELLAWAY

No; I cannot give any information previous to the control being taken over by the State.

General CROFT

Will the hon. Gentleman get the information if I put a question down?

Mr. KELLAWAY

I will see what can be done.
