HC Deb 20 February 1918 vol 103 c739
50. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Prime Minister whether, in case the Irish Convention fails to produce an agreed scheme, he will apply to Ireland in completely unfettered scope the principle of self-determination?

Mr. BONAR LAW

This is a hypothetical question, and I cannot answer it.

51. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Prime Minister whether he is in a position to make a statement as to the conclusions of the Irish Convention?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I am not yet in a position to make any statement.

Mr. LYNCH

Has the right hon. Gentleman any anticipation as to when he will be able to answer?

Mr. BONAR LAW

No; it does not depend on circumstances over which I have any control.

Mr. PRINGLE

How long are the dying agonies of the Convention to be continued?

Mr. BONAR LAW

That is assuming that the Convention will have no result. It is much too soon to come to that conclusion.
