HC Deb 07 August 1918 vol 109 c1355
59. Mr. CURRIE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has received numerous complaints and petitions to the effect that his undertaking that trading concerns investing available funds in Government stocks would in no way be penalised by surveyors of taxes has been imperfectly carried out; whether, in response to his request, cases of alleged oppressive assessment have been specially investigated; and, if so, with what result?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have received a few representations relating to this matter. Each case has been investigated and considered on its merits, but they have been found to afford no ground for apprehension that in the administration of the Statute effect is not being duly given to my undertaking.
