HC Deb 06 August 1918 vol 109 cc1121-2
75. Mr. TREVELYAN

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, as it has been decided that, in the event of a General Election, the votes cast at home will not be counted before the arrival of the ballot papers marked by the soldiers who are away from home, the soldiers are to vote on an earlier date than the General Election, or whether all over the country several days are to elapse between the poll and the counting of the votes?

Mr. S. WALSH

Section 23 (3) of the Representation of the People Act contemplates the postponement of the counting of the votes cast at home for a period not exceeding eight days after the close of the poll, so that the counting of all the votes, including the absent voters' votes, may take place at one and the same time.
