HC Deb 29 April 1918 vol 105 cc1293-4
72. Mr. WATT

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what are to be the prices paid this year for Cheviot, Leicester, and black-faced wools in Scotland; are the farmers to be forced to send their wool to certain wool-brokers without any choice, even if these have proved unsatisfactory in their transactions in the past; are these brokers or are the district inspectors of the wool-purchasing Department to have the say as to what is broken wool and what is not; and has the Department altered the districts of the inspectors in Scotland from those they dealt with last year?

Mr. FORSTER

The detailed price list for the Scotch 1918 wool clip has been drawn up, and will be issued to the Press at an early date. With regard to the second part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given him on 19th December last The decision as to whether wool should be classed as broken or otherwise rests with the district executive officer or his expert technical assistants who work under his supervision.
