asked the. Undersecretary of State for War whether he will investigate the case of Private James Brabbs, of the l/3rd Battalion, North Riding Volunteer Regiment, a volunteer subject to military law under the Volunteer Act, 1916, Section 1, Sub-section (3). who was charged with having failed to attend drills between the months ending 30th June, 1937, and 28th February, 1918, and sentenced to seventy-two hours' detention; and whether he is aware that Brabbs was a farm manager, his employer having died on 26th April, 1917, that he worked on the farm from 4.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m., that owing to shortage of labour he had to work overtime, and in consequence it was physically impossible for him to attend any drills?
