HC Deb 15 April 1918 vol 105 c5
5. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that a special train, consisting of Midland brake, bogie-composite, three horse-vans, eleven carriage trucks, and bogie-van, was run by the Midland Railway Company between Appleby and Clifton on Wednesday, 27th March; how many miles this train was run both full and empty; whom it was run for; if it was paid for at the usual rates; and will he state why it was run, in view of the general knowledge of the shortage of railway stock and the appeals to the public to give up all unnecessary travelling generally and during the Easter holidays?

Sir A. STANLEY

I had not previously heard of this matter, but I am making inquiries, and will let the hon. Gentleman know the result.
