HC Deb 15 April 1918 vol 105 cc7-8
8. Sir J. D. REES

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has asked, or will ask, the Board of Trade to licence imports into the United Kingdom of half the coffee crop of 1917–18, as was done in respect of the crop of the preceding year?

Mr. HERBERT FISHER

The Secretary of State has been in communication with the Board of Trade, who have not found it possible to licence more than 1,674 tons, i.e., half the quantity imported in 1917. Shipping difficulties may, in practice, prevent this concession from becoming operative. A considerable quantity of coffee is being sent from India to other theatres of war.
