HC Deb 27 November 1917 vol 99 cc1806-7
8. Colonel Sir J. NORTON GRIFFITHS

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if, pending the drainage of the hutment section of Chiseldon Camp, and in view of the sickness which resulted from the unhealthy state of the camp last winter, he can arrange for the removal of the troops now stationed there to another and more healthy site?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The sickness to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers was traceable to certain definite causes, which have been most carefully investigated by the Army Sanitary Committee. On their recommendations considerable improvements have already been effected in the ventilation and drainage, and these, with other measures which are being undertaken will, in their opinion, remove any objection to the continued occupation of the huts.
