HC Deb 19 November 1917 vol 99 c858
60. Colonel Lord HENRY CAVENDISHBENTINCK

asked whether the Government has decided whether it will proceed with the Education Bill during this Session or not?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I can add nothing to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for South Salford on the 15th November.

Mr. E. HARVEY

Is it not possible to give some assurance that it will be taken very early next Session?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The reply to which I referred the hon. Member was that the Government would proceed with it as quickly as the exigencies of the War permitted.

Mr. WHITEHOUSE

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether, in view of the representations made to the Government, the question is under reconsideration?

Mr. BONAR LAW

How can it be under reconsideration? I have said it will be passed as quickly as Parliamentary time will allow.

Commander WEDGWOOD

If they pass this measure can they ever enforce it in the country?
