HC Deb 19 November 1917 vol 99 cc859-60
65. Mr. CHANCELLOR

asked whether the profits made by the beef trust on their turnover in this country, amounting to about £20,000,000 per annum, have been brought under contribution for Income Tax; if so, in what year they were first brought under contribution; whether they have now been taxed on profits made during the many years in which the question was under consideration by the solicitors' department at Somerset House; and whether the rate of tax, if any, has been identical with that paid by their English competitors?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I can assure the hon. Member that the Income Tax is assessed and collected in this as in other cases at the rates prescribed by the Finance Acts.
