HC Deb 30 March 1917 vol 92 cc766-7
49. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Prime Minister whether the assurance to consult further the trade unions aggrieved in connection with the military exemption card can now take effect, or whether he can announce any decision of the Government which will treat equally the same class of workmen who are members of different trade unions?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of MUNITIONS (Mr. Kellaway)

The trade unions concerned will be invited to a conference next week, at which the proposals of the Government for dealing with the question of protecting indispensable men on munitions work will be outlined.

Mr. THORNE

Does chat mean that the craft unions concerned are going to meet separately or are they going to have a part in the conference?

Mr. KELLAWAY

There will be a conference, I think, on Wednesday, under present arrangements with the union in which my hon. Friend is particularly interested. I am not at present able to say whether the conference with the craft unions will be held at the same time and place, but a conference will also be held with them.
