HC Deb 30 March 1917 vol 92 c769
Captain DONELAN

(by Private Notice) asked the Leader of the House whether, in accordance with the precedent of past years, whereby the Saturday before Easter Day was by Royal Proclamation, in pursuance of the provision of the Bank Holidays Act, 1871, declared as a special day to be observed as a Bank Holiday throughout the United Kingdom, and having regard to the great advantage thereby conferred on the public, the Government will advise that a like Royal Proclamation be issued declaring Saturday, 7th April, the Saturday before Easter Day, to be observed as a Bank Holiday throughout the United Kingdom?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Proclamations will be issued in Great Britain and Ireland respectively, making Saturday, 7th April, a Bank Holiday, but it is not intended that it should be a general holiday.
