HC Deb 19 March 1917 vol 91 cc1549-50

The following question stood in the name of Sir CHARLES HOBHOUSE:

59.To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will grant a day for the discussion of the Resolution standing in the name of the Member for East Bristol and other Members?—

["That, in the opinion of this House, the interim Report of the Special Commission appointed to inquire into the origin, inception, and conduct of the operations in the Dardanelles and Gallipoli should be presented, as submitted by the Commission, to both Houses of Parliament as required by the Act of George V., cap. 34, Sec. 6, and be accessible to all Members without distinction."]

Sir C. HOBHOUSE

This question, which was put down at the request of my right hon. Friend has been very largely answered by the time which he afforded to my right hon. Friend the Leader of the Liberal party. Perhaps he will allow me to ask him if he confirms his undertaking that the aspect of the Dardanelles Report in my Resolution is entitled to be discussed distinct from that to be initiated by the Leader of the Liberal party?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Yes, I gave a distinct promise to my right hon. Friend, which I hope will be fulfilled by the opportunity given to-morrow. It will, of course, depend on you, Mr. Speaker, but I have no doubt an opportunity will be given then.
