HC Deb 19 March 1917 vol 91 c1521
7. Mr. FIELD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has received a communication from the Dublin Mercantile Association enclosing particulars of delays and refusals by carrying companies to accept goods for transmission to Ireland; and whether he will make inquiries and endeavour to arrange that unnecessary delay shall be avoided?

Mr. ROBERTS

My right hon. Friend has received the communication referred to, and will bring it to the notice of the London and North-Western Railway Company. As stated, however, in reply to a question asked by the hon. Gentleman on the 28th February, it is to be feared that, in present circumstances, some difficulties in connection with the conveyance of goods to Ireland are inevitable.

Mr. FIELD

Will a real effort be made by the hon. Gentleman's Department to remove the extraordinary conditions in regard to the transport of goods to Ireland?

Mr. ROBERTS

I indicated in the reply that my right hon. Friend has the matter under his personal consideration.

Sir JOHN LONSDALE

Was not the same reply given to a question which I put to him six months ago?

Mr. ROBERTS

I was not aware of that.
