HC Deb 14 March 1917 vol 91 cc1091-2
78. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state who constitutes the Railway Executive Committee; do they represent various railway companies, and, if so, which ones; will he state how often they meet; if the members receive any salaries; and are all questions relating to railway management and control referred to and decided by this committee?

Mr. ROBERTS

I am sending the hon. Gentleman a list of the members of the British Railway Executive Committee, which shows the railway companies with which the various members are connected. Full meetings of the committee are usually held at least once a week, and, in addition, there are numerous meetings of sub-committees. The expenses of the committee form part of the working expenses of the railway companies of whose undertakings the Government has taken possession, but salaries are not paid to the members of the committee as such. The committee are responsible to the Government for the management of the controlled railways.

Mr. BOOTH

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether this committee is responsible for the advertisements which are still flaunted in big type advertising the running of steamers from Grimsby to Hamburg inviting passengers to take tickets?

Mr. LOUGH

Will the hon. Gentleman circulate the Papers he has promised to all Members of the House?

Mr. ROBERTS

They will appear in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
