HC Deb 07 March 1917 vol 91 cc398-9
Sir C. HOBHOUSE

(by Private Notice) asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the statement he has made that the Interim Reports of the Dardanelles Commission are to be circulated in a truncated condition, he will suspend their circulation until such time as this House has had an opportunity of expressing its opinion on the Resolution standing in the name of the right hon. Member for Bristol East, and many other Members?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Arrangements have been made by which the Reports will be in the hands of hon. Members to-morrow morning. I can see no reason for delay pending the consideration of the Motion of my right hon. Friend. As I have already pointed out, if the House should decide that the omitted sentences should be presented, then that course could be taken, on the assumption that a Government could be formed which would take the responsibility of publishing them.

Sir C. HOBHOUSE

Will the right hon. Gentleman give an early date for the consideration of that Resolution?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I think I shall be ready to give an opportunity for its consideration if, after the Report is received, it is still desired to have such a discussion.

Mr. G. LAMBERT

Will the right hon. Gentleman give an early opportunity for discussion of the Report itself, if considered necessary?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I think the House ought to see the Report first, and then we can see what desire there is for such a discussion.
