HC Deb 07 March 1917 vol 91 cc393-4
107. Mr. BOLAND

asked the hon. Member for Worcestershire (Bewdley Division) whether, in view of the fact that altar wine is an absolute necessity for the priests of the Catholic Church in the celebration of Mass in Great Britain and Ireland and for the Catholic chaplains serving with the Army and Navy, he will arrange that permission is granted for the importation of the necessary supplies; and whether he can state on what date it is proposed to enforce the new restrictions?

Mr. ROBERTS

My hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. No difficulty will be placed in the way of the importation of moderate quantities of wine shown to be necessary for the purposes mentioned and unobtainable otherwise than by importation. The new restrictions came into force on 23rd February.
