HC Deb 28 June 1917 vol 95 c516
31. Mr. CROOKS

asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the possibility of extending the recent war bonus awarded to members of the police force to the pensioners who have rejoined, in view of the fact that the latter receive no extra allowances and in many cases have to maintain two homes?

Sir G. CAVE

I would refer my right hon. Friend to the reply which I gave on Tuesday to the hon. Member for Blackburn. These men enjoy a higher rate of remuneration than their colleagues in the active force, and I cannot extend the bonus to them. The fact that they might have to leave their homes was taken into account in fixing their rate of pay, but so far as possible they are employed within reach of their homes.
