HC Deb 25 June 1917 vol 95 cc28-9
63. Mr. ACLAND ALLEN

asked the Pensions Minister whether a widow of a sailor or soldier will have a right of appeal to the Pensions Appeal Committee against a decision by the Pensions Ministry that the illness which caused the death of her husband was not due to or aggravated by the War?

The MINISTER of PENSIONS (Mr. Barnes)

The functions of the Appeal Tribunal, as submitted to the Treasury, relate to disabled soldiers and sailors who have been granted gratuities on the grounds that their disablement was neither attributable to nor aggravated by military service, and who claim pensions. I sec no reason why the corresponding cases of widows who are granted short pensions on corresponding grounds should not be allowed access to the Appeal Court, and I propose to arrange for this.
