HC Deb 25 June 1917 vol 95 c23
48. Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Prime Minister whether efforts to adjust labour difficulties and to organise to the best advantage the available labour resources are at present being made by such Departments as the Ministry of National Service, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Munitions, the War Office, the Admiralty, the Board of Trade, the Board of Agriculture, and other Departments; whether he is aware that the policies pursued by these Departments are frequently contradictory, irritating, and confusing; whether it is proposed to take any steps in the direction of coordination and greater efficiency; and, if so, what stops?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Special steps have been taken by the Government to avoid the evils referred to in the question and to co-ordinate the work of the different Departments concerned.

Colonel CLAUDE LOWTHER

Will the right hon. Gentleman say when he will give a day to discuss profiteering and labour unrest in this country?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have already said that, with the general approval of the House, it would be much better to give the new Food Controller a little time before this subject is discussed.
