HC Deb 25 June 1917 vol 95 cc13-4
26. Mr. KING

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to the case of James Orpen, who on 20th June was bound over at Stratford Police Court to be of good behaviour, on a charge under Section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1885; whether the charges of attempting to procure two boys in contravention of that section were dismissed or withdrawn and, if withdrawn, upon what grounds; whether the prosecution was conducted on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions; and under what statutory enactment the Court dealt summarily with the charge?

Sir G. CAVE

The Director of Public Prosecutions was not concerned in this case. I am making inquiry into it, and will let the hon. Member know the result.

Mr. KING

Will the right hon. Gentleman especially inquire whether this man is being let off on condition that he goes into the Army?

Sir G. CAVE

I will inquire.
