HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 cc1960-1
59. Mr. FIELD

asked the Prime Minister if he will state the terms of reference to the Commissions appointed to inquire into the cause or otherwise of industrial unrest; whether the Commissions will take evidence; whether the Commissions will be centralised or moving; and whether opportunities will be given to Government direct employés to offer evidence respecting the conditions of employment in the respective Government Departments?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The terms of reference to the Commission of Inquiry into Industrial Unrest are "to inquire into and report upon industrial unrest and to make recommendations to the Government at the earliest practicable date." It rests with the chairman of the eight Commissions to decide whether they work from a central headquarters or hold sittings in different places. Evidence may be offered to the Commission by employés of Government Departments on matters relating to industrial unrest.

Colonel LOWTHER

May I ask if this House will be given an opportunity of discussing industrial unrest in this country?
