HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 c1971
106. Mr. S. SAMUEL

asked the Undersecretary of State for War whether he is aware that the Wandsworth Borough Council have recently prosecuted, and obtained a conviction, against a firm of milk sellers for supplying adulterated milk to the 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth Common, and that, upon hearing of the proceedings, the military authorities have prohibited the Wandsworth Borough Council from taking any further samples of milk delivered at the hospital; and whether, as there are many convalescent soldiers at this hospital upon milk diet, instructions will be given to remove this embargo so as to safeguard the purity of the supply of milk to this hospital?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, but I may explain that it is not the normal procedure to utilise the services of the local medical officer of health. The military authorities have their own arrangements under officers specially appointed, which are considered quite adequate to safeguard the purity of milk.
