HC Deb 20 June 1917 vol 94 cc1786-7
46. Mr. TOOTILL

asked the Prime Minister whether he can see his way to alter the present practice that a soldier's pay ceases while he is undergoing military punishment, which is accompanied by forfeiture of pay, and of arranging that the dependant's Government allowance should not be suspended, or, failing that, a special allowance from public funds be allocated to such dependants during the period of such suspension of pay?

Mr. FORSTER

My hon." Friend is under a misapprehension. The allowance from public funds is not suspended; but if a soldier forfeits all his pay the part of it which is remitted to his family is not available for issue.
