HC Deb 20 June 1917 vol 94 c1790
Mr. G. LAMBERT

asked the Prime Minister whether, having regard to the recent increasing losses of mercantile-shipping through the activity of hostile submarines, the Government is assured of the competence of the present Board of Admiralty to adopt measures to secure the safety of our oversea communications?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The answer is in the affirmative.

Mr. LAMBERT

May I ask my right hon. Friend is it not the fact that after seven months of the administration of the present Board of Admiralty the shipping losses are more severe than ever.

Mr. BONAR LAW

I do not think it is fair, and I am sure the House will agree with me, to judge entirely by results.

Mr. PRI NGLE

Is not that why you put an end to the last Government.
