HC Deb 20 June 1917 vol 94 c1791
55. Mr. KING

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that a. meeting was held in Manchester on 12th June, at which it was stated that the excuses of the Government for suspending horse-racing during the War were lies, that there was no shortage of petrol nor of oats, nor any difficulties of transport, that they could use their cars as before, and need not trouble about the Regulations, that they ignored oat-rationing, and had given their horses more oats recently; and whether the Government propose to reverse their decision to suspend horse-racing for the present?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have not read the report of the meeting referred to by the hon. Member. I have no statement to make at present with regard to the second part of the question.

Mr. KING

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these statements were made authoritatively by representatives—

Mr. SPEAKER

The right hon. Gentleman has stated that he had not read the report.
